Only qualified candidates will be recruited as teachers — Ekiti SUBEB

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, has said only qualified and competent candidates will be considered for employment in the ongoing primary school teachers’ recruitment exercise in the state.
Akinwumi said this was necessary to ensure quality teaching at the primary school level, which he said “is crucial to the academic development of pupils and their future educational pursuits”.
The SUBEB chairman spoke in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, where he disclosed that the board had concluded a four-day interview exercise for shortlisted candidates seeking recruitment into the state’s public primary schools.
He said, “Candidates will be selected strictly on merit and based on their relevant qualifications. Only those with the requisite certificates will be considered.
“The interview was aimed at ensuring that qualified and competent teachers are recruited into the state’s public primary schools. The ongoing exercise was designed to fill existing vacancies and address teacher shortages, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.”
He said the state government would continue to maintain high standards in the education sector, starting from the primary school level, which he said was crucial to pupils’ academic development.
Akinwumi said, “Once pupils fail at the primary school level, it will affect them at the junior secondary school level and in their future academic pursuits. I can assure you that Ekiti SUBEB will not compromise when it comes to the future of our pupils.”
He said the interview panel comprised seasoned senior technocrats and management staff of the board, including directors, administrative officers and education officers, adding that the process included oral interviews and micro-teaching sessions by the candidates.
Akinwumi hailed the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for approving the recruitment exercise to fill vacancies in public primary schools across the state.
