Osimhen Scores As Galatasaray Edge Basaksehir 3-2

Victor Osimhen scored his sixth goal of the season before being forced off with an injury as Galatasaray claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday.

The Super Eagles striker opened the scoring in the 16th minute, completing a well-worked attacking move to give the Turkish champions an early advantage.

However, Osimhen’s night was cut short after he picked up an injury and was substituted in the 33rd minute, with Barış Alper Yılmaz introduced as his replacement.

Basaksehir responded strongly after the interval and drew level in the 66th minute when Eldor Shomurodov converted from the penalty spot.

Galatasaray restored their lead five minutes later, with Lucas Torreira finishing a well-executed team move in the 71st minute.

The hosts were pegged back once again when Galatasaray defender Davinson Sánchez inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, bringing Basaksehir level and setting up a tense finale.

Just when the contest appeared destined to end in a draw, Gabriel Sara stepped up in the 90th minute, curling a superb free-kick into the net to secure all three points for Galatasaray.

The victory maintains Galatasaray’s impressive start to the season, while the club will now await further assessment of Osimhen’s injury after the Nigerian was withdrawn in the first half.
