“If anything happens to me…” — Keke driver orders passengers down after spotting stranded family in rain

A lady has shared her frustrating encounter with a commercial tricycle driver who asked all his passengers to get down after spotting his family stranded in heavy rain.
The lady said the incident happened at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, on a day when heavy rainfall caused transport fares to rise significantly. According to her, tricycle and bus drivers were charging between ₦1,500 and ₦2,000 for trips to Ayobo, forcing her to pay ₦1,500 for a keke ride.
However, things took an unexpected turn when they reached Water Bus Stop and encountered serious traffic.
Keke driver spots family stranded in rain
According to the lady, the driver suddenly spotted his father and sisters standing in the rain while searching for transportation home.
Rather than continue the journey with his passengers, the driver asked everyone to get down so he could pick up his family.
Recalling their frustration, the lady said there were hardly any available buses or tricycles at the time, leaving the passengers stranded despite the heavy rainfall. She, however, disclosed that the driver refunded their fares.
Explaining his decision to the angry passengers, the driver reportedly said, “If anything happens to me, na my family go take care of me, no be una passengers.”
Lady reflects on unusual encounter
Looking back at the experience, the lady admitted that while the driver’s decision demonstrated his commitment to his family, it was painful for the stranded passengers at the time.
She concluded, “Omo, family first but this one pain us sha.”
The experience highlights one of the unexpected situations commuters can encounter during periods of heavy rainfall and traffic congestion in Lagos.
