“I find it humiliating, it’s giving, ‘I’m a nanny’” – Tomike questions practice of nannies wearing uniforms

Nigerian media personality Tomike Adeoye has questioned the practice of parents making their children’s nannies wear uniforms when they accompany them to public places.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, Tomike described the practice as humiliating, noting that she prefers her children’s nannies to look neat and well dressed whenever they are with her family.
“I can never wrap my head around people who go out with their children’s nannies wearing their uniforms. I find it very humiliating. It’s giving, ‘I’m a nanny.’
Especially when you’re at a party and you’re looking all glammed up, your kids are looking so cute, and then you have their nannies wearing uniforms,” she said.
She explained that she takes pride in how her children’s nannies look and does not see them as mere employees.
Tomike also frowned at parents who speak harshly to their nannies, stressing that caregivers deserve respect because they are responsible for their children in their absence.
“As long as you’re taking care of my child, looking after that child in my absence, you have become my family. My husband once heard one of my nannies telling her boyfriend, ‘Even my madam cannot speak to me like that.
Even my madam cannot call me names.’ I said, ‘Clock.’ If you will come to my home and become more self-aware, then I have made a positive impact in your life. Life is not that hard,” she added.
Tomike’s comments have sparked reactions online, with social media users sharing different views on nanny uniforms and the treatment of domestic workers.
Her remarks have also renewed conversations about dignity and mutual respect between employers and domestic staff.
