President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Kaduna State’s free CNG mass transit programme, describing it as a model of practical intervention at the subnational level.
The President specifically highlighted the deployment of 100 CNG-powered buses under Governor Uba Sani’s administration.
In a post on his official X account, President Tinubu made “special mention” of Kaduna State’s intervention, noting that it demonstrated how the transition to cheaper domestic energy could translate into tangible relief for ordinary citizens.
The scheme recorded about 3.2 million passenger trips in its first year, saving commuters more than 3.5 billion naira in transport costs.

Kaduna state authorities says it remains the only state operating a free CNG mass transit programme of this nature.
The presidential commendation comes as the Federal Government and states intensify efforts to expand affordable CNG transportation across the country.
