NDC Disowns OK Movement Presidential Campaign Council

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dissociated itself from a purported Presidential Campaign Council announced under the banner of the “OK Movement” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party made its position known in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, following a publication credited to John Ugulu announcing the campaign council. The NDC said the announcement did not emanate from the party and should be disregarded by the public and the media.

The party said only its leadership has the authority to constitute and announce a Presidential Campaign Council, warning members, candidates and support groups against announcing or publishing any campaign structure in its name without prior approval from the National Working Committee.

“The party hereby dissociates itself in totality from the said OK Movement PCC announcement. It did not emanate from the party and should be disregarded by the public and the media,” the statement said.

The NDC also reminded its candidates that they were contesting under the party’s platform and remained subject to its authority and disciplinary structures.

“All candidates of the party must appreciate that they are not running as independent candidates. They are products of the party and remain subject to the authority and discipline of the party,” the statement said.

According to the party, no member, candidate or support group should establish a campaign council or other structure in its name without the required approval.

“Henceforth, no individual or group is authorized to announce, constitute, or publish any campaign council, structure, or organ in the name of the party without prior approval from the National Working Committee,” the party said.

The NDC, however, acknowledged the contributions of support groups and said it remained open to working with groups that identified with its political objectives.

“The party recognizes and deeply appreciates the contributions of all support groups and encourages their continued support. We welcome even more support groups who identify with our mission to rescue Nigeria,” it said.

The party cautioned such groups against presenting themselves as alternative or parallel structures of the NDC, while urging members and supporters with grievances to use internal channels for resolution rather than resorting to public attacks.

The NDC also said Ugulu would be referred to its appropriate disciplinary organ over what it described as his actions during the Lagos State primary election and repeated disregard for the authority of the party.

“For this act of affront and his excesses during the primary election in Lagos State, and for his repeated disregard for party authority, the party is constrained to enforce disciplinary measures against Mr. Ugulu.

“He is hereby referred to the appropriate disciplinary organ of the party for necessary action in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution,” the statement said.

The development followed the unveiling of a 59-member Presidential Campaign Council by the OK Movement, comprising zonal and state coordinators as well as directors responsible for areas including mobilisation, women affairs, strategy, security and legal affairs.

The NDC said it remained focused on its issue-based campaign and its stated objective of delivering what it described as a “New Nigeria that is POssible.”
