Doro said sustainable humanitarian intervention should focus on strengthening national institutions and empowering communities to withstand, recover from and overcome crises.
He highlighted the Ministry’s One Humanitarian, One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS) as a key initiative designed to integrate humanitarian assistance, social protection and poverty reduction programmes into a coordinated national framework.
According to the minister, emergency support should not end after a crisis situation improves but must create pathways for recovery, resilience and long-term economic stability.
He also called for increased domestic financing for humanitarian programmes, stressing the importance of improving the welfare, training, remuneration and professional development of humanitarian workers operating in difficult environments.
The minister noted that humanitarian personnel often work under challenging and dangerous conditions while providing support to vulnerable populations.
The commemoration brought together stakeholders who reaffirmed the importance of partnership, solidarity and respect for human dignity in addressing humanitarian challenges.
Participants stressed the need to build resilient communities where citizens can actively contribute to their recovery and development.
Doro urged government agencies, development partners and private organisations to sustain compassion, cooperation and decisive action in responding to humanitarian needs across Nigeria.
