Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has rewarded the overall best graduating students of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions with ₦20 million each.

Governor Sanwo-Olu announced the cash gifts on Wednesday, during LASU’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies held at the university’s main campus in Ojo, Lagos.

The beneficiaries are Ayilara Olawale, who emerged as the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, and Adebanjo Oluolamide, the overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session.

The governor’s New Media aide, Jubril Gawat, disclosed the development in a post on X, stating that each of the two graduates would receive ₦20 million.

According to Gawat, Governor Sanwo-Olu, who is also the visitor to LASU, announced the awards during the convocation ceremony as part of his recognition of the students’ outstanding academic performance.

Olawale, a graduate of project management technology, completed his programme with a cumulative grade point average of 4.96 and graduated with first class honours.

Oluolamide, who studied aerospace engineering, achieved an even higher CGPA of 4.97 and also graduated with first class honours.

The N20 million award is expected to be presented separately to each of the two graduates.

The recognition adds to the series of honours received by Oluolamide following his exceptional performance at LASU.

Only days before the governor’s announcement, Oluolamide was presented with another ₦10 million cash prize under the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme after emerging as LASU’s overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The latest awards have further highlighted the academic achievements of the two graduates and underscored the recognition being given to exceptional students at the Lagos State-owned university.
