Omo-Agege Raises Alarm Over Death Threats From Gov. Oborevwori

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has raised the alarm over alleged threats to his life and those of his family members.
Omo-Agege, who is the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Delta Central Senatorial District, raised the alarm on Thursday as he commenced his campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former lawmaker said the alleged threats had become “disturbing and increasingly credible”, prompting him to publicly alert Nigerians, the international community, civil society organisations, the media and security agencies.
He specifically named Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State whom he said should be held responsible and accountable should anything happen to him or members of his family.
“I note with grave concern the disturbing and increasingly credible threats to my life and my family members in Delta State emanating from the Delta State Government House, Asaba,” Omo-Agege said.
He added: “As I commence the campaigns, beginning today with stops in Uvwie Local Government Area, and the other seven Local Government Areas, I want the Nigerian public, the international community, civil-society organisations, the media, and all security agencies to take formal notice.
“Should anything untoward happen to me or members of my family, the Nigerian people and more particularly the Urhobo people of Delta Central Senatorial District should hold the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, responsible and accountable.”
Omo-Agege’s allegation comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with the former Delta Central senator seeking a return to the National Assembly on the platform of the NDC.
He had in May announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC after weeks of consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders.
Explaining his decision to return to the Senate, Omo-Agege said it followed sustained demands from constituents for what he described as effective and result-oriented representation.
“That call is loud, consistent, alive, and urgent. I cannot ignore it, and I will not betray the trust you have placed in me,” he said.
The former Deputy Senate President described the NDC as a people-oriented political platform committed to accountability, inclusion and true federalism.
According to him, communities across Delta State continue to grapple with poor roads, inadequate healthcare facilities, overcrowded schools and rising unemployment despite the state’s resources.
“Right now, too much of Delta’s wealth sits in CBN accounts while our people suffer from bad roads, collapsed hospitals, and abandoned communities. This is not governance. It is a failure of leadership and a betrayal of public trust,” he said.
Omo-Agege also pledged to strengthen the NDC’s structure across Delta State and campaign for equitable distribution of federal projects, as well as improved economic opportunities for youths and small businesses.
“I will not go to Abuja to warm the bench. I am going to fight for Delta Central, and as your senator, my focus will remain on delivering representation that matters,” he said.
He called on youths, women, traditional rulers and registered voters across the senatorial district to participate actively in the political process ahead of the 2027 elections.
