Man regrets ignoring genetic compatibility before having daughter with sickle cell disease

A Nigerian man has spoken emotionally about his family’s experience after his daughter was born with sickle cell disease, blaming a decision he made while following his religious beliefs.

The man said he and his wife were both aware that they were AS, but chose to remain together and abstain from sex for three years because of their religious convictions.

According to him, he believed that God would prevent them from having a child with sickle cell disease despite their genetic compatibility status.

He now regrets the decision and described the situation as a painful reality his family is currently struggling to navigate.

The embattled man said in part …

“My daughter has sickle cell because of a foolish mistake i made due to religion”

The story has sparked renewed discussions about genetic counselling and genotype compatibility, particularly the importance of making informed reproductive decisions alongside one’s personal or religious beliefs.
