23-Year-Old Law Student Dies in Lagos Hostel, Suicide Note Reportedly Found

A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School, Faith Alayande Ajoke, has died in an incident suspected to be suicide at the institution’s hostel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026, when Alayande was found unresponsive within the hostel premises.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the hostel matron reported the matter after the student was discovered.
The Command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said a suicide note was reportedly found after another student and a relative of the deceased became concerned and began searching for her.
According to the police, Alayande was subsequently found after falling from the rooftop of the four-storey hostel building.
“I can confirm the incident. The deceased reportedly wrote a suicide note and, before her hostel mate and a relative could locate her, she jumped from the rooftop of a four-storey building,” Adebisi said.
She added that police officers visited the scene following the report, while the deceased’s remains were taken to a morgue for preservation.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama also reported the incident on X, stating that another student discovered the deceased and alerted the hostel authorities.
Makama said the Chief Matron of the Nigerian Law School, Mrs Igbokwe Juliana, reported the matter at the Victoria Island Police Division at about 6:30am.
He said preliminary findings indicated that the student may have fallen from the rooftop of the hostel.
The police have commenced an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
The incident has reportedly left students and staff of the Nigerian Law School shocked, as authorities work to determine what led to the tragedy.
