A man has sparked an online conversation after sharing how his female colleague confidently spent ₦7,000 on shawarma despite having only ₦8,000 in her bank account.

The man said the incident happened while he was returning from work and his colleague joined him in his car. According to him, she asked him to stop at a shawarma shop, where she ordered food worth ₦7,000.

He said he later noticed a bank notification on her phone showing that only ₦1,000 remained in her account after the purchase.

Woman explains why she bought the shawarma

Surprised by her decision, the man questioned why she would spend almost all her available money on a craving.

He said the woman responded, “Omo, I have been craving Shawarma for a very long time. I cannot wait till month end abeg. I need to satisfy my cravings.”

The man admitted that he would struggle to make a similar decision, saying that even with ₦30,000 in his account, he would not feel comfortable spending ₦7,000 on a craving.

His observation has since highlighted differing attitudes towards personal spending, particularly when it comes to satisfying immediate wants.

Man’s observation sparks discussion

The story has drawn attention because of the contrasting approaches to money management described by the man.

While he appeared focused on preserving his available funds, his colleague prioritised satisfying a craving despite being left with just ₦1,000.

The incident has consequently triggered discussion about whether people should strictly prioritise saving and financial planning or occasionally spend money on things that make them happy.
