The Law Graduates Association of Nigeria (LAWGAN) has expressed grief over the death of Faith Alayande, a student of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus.

Alayande reportedly died after falling from a four-storey building at the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School.

In a statement signed by its President, Kayode Bello, and Public Relations Officer, Ojo Clement, LAWGAN described the incident as “deeply painful and distressing” to the legal community.

The association urged the public to exercise restraint and refrain from spreading unverified information, noting that the circumstances surrounding the student’s death were still being investigated.

“While we await the outcome of the investigation, we wish to use this opportunity to remind members of the legal community, students and the general public that no challenge, no matter how difficult or overwhelming, should lead anyone to take his or her own life,” LAWGAN said.

The association also urged people facing emotional, academic, financial, professional or personal difficulties to seek support from trusted family members, friends, mentors, religious leaders or appropriate professionals.

It also commended the relevant authorities for their efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and called for a thorough investigation.

The association urged members of the legal profession and students to continue looking out for one another and foster an environment where people do not feel alone in times of difficulty.

“May her soul rest in perfect peace,” LAWGAN said.
