“Madam, no be me give you belle” — Lady recounts shocking response from man who refused pregnant woman his seat

A woman has shared her experience on a BRT bus after a man refused to give a pregnant woman his seat, despite her pleading with him.

The lady, who narrated the incident online, said she was irritated by the man’s response when the pregnant woman asked him to allow her to sit.

According to her, the pregnant woman was visibly in need of a seat but could not get one because the man refused to stand up for her.

The man reportedly told the pregnant woman, “Madam, no be me give you belle. Person wey give you belle suppose give you Uber money.”

Woman recounts BRT encounter

The narrator said she found the man’s response particularly upsetting, especially because she was also standing in the BRT at the time and could not offer the pregnant woman her own seat.

She explained that the pregnant woman had personally appealed to the man before he made the comment.

The incident has drawn attention to the expectations surrounding courtesy and consideration for pregnant women using public transport.

While standing on a crowded bus can be uncomfortable for anyone, pregnant passengers may find prolonged standing particularly difficult, making access to a seat an important consideration.

Lady calls for kindness towards pregnant women

The woman concluded her narration with an appeal to Nigerian men, urging them to show consideration whenever they encounter pregnant women on public transport.

She said, “Nigerian men, if you see a pregnant woman in a bus, please stand up for her.”

Her account has sparked discussion about everyday courtesy on Nigerian public transport, particularly when passengers encounter people who may need seats more urgently.

The incident also highlights how a simple gesture, such as offering a seat, can become a source of frustration when passengers fail to consider one another.
