Lady alleges some Nigerian doctors order unnecessary medical tests to exploit patients

A Nigerian lady has called out some doctors in the country, accusing them of deliberately requesting unnecessary medical tests in a bid to generate revenue for hospitals.

In a now-viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she claimed that while some tests are medically necessary for proper diagnosis, others are allegedly recommended even when patients do not need them.

“Nigerian doctors, you guys should stop misdiagnosing people and making them spend money they don’t need to spend just because you’re trying to make money for the hospital or for yourselves.

I’m not talking about doctors who genuinely need tests to diagnose patients. I’m referring to those who intentionally send people to the lab for tests they don’t need,” she said.

The lady alleged that a doctor once ordered four expensive tests after she complained of chest pain and warned her that something was wrong with her heart.

She explained that after seeking a second opinion from a consultant in the same hospital, she was told the tests were unnecessary, with only a malaria test being recommended after her medical history was reviewed.

“The first doctor never even went through my medical history. The consultant looked through my file and said the chest pain was caused by involuntary muscle contraction because of my active lifestyle. Two doctors later told me I didn’t need those expensive tests.

That same day, the same doctor gave another person the exact four tests. It was obvious he had an agenda. God will judge those doctors who intentionally send patients for tests they don’t need,” she added.

Her remarks have since sparked debate online, with many Nigerians sharing similar experiences while others urged patients to seek second opinions before undergoing costly medical tests.
