Isaac Fayose Raises Alarm Over Alleged Deaths, ₦100bn Spending in Osun Election

Social commentator and businessman Isaac Fayose has stirred controversy after reacting to the recently concluded Osun State governorship election, alleging that 29 people lost their lives in connection with the poll.
Fayose also questioned reports of massive financial spending by political parties during the election, asking what could have been achieved if such funds had been channelled into education, empowerment and poverty alleviation.
In a post shared on Instagram, Fayose claimed that 29 people had died over the political struggle surrounding the election.
“Osun State, 29 people don kpai for Adeleke, say they no go take him state from him. The Adeleke now is with the oppressor they fought. What a country,” he said.
He further criticised what he described as a political realignment involving Governor Ademola Adeleke and forces he claimed had previously opposed him.
Fayose also questioned conflicting claims about the amount allegedly spent by political parties during the election.
According to the claims referenced by Fayose, Adeleke’s elder brother, Adedeji Adeleke, alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) spent about ₦60 billion during the election.
He also cited a separate claim attributed to former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose that the Accord Party allegedly spent about ₦40 billion.
Reacting to the figures, Isaac Fayose questioned how much development could have been achieved if the reported ₦100 billion had instead been invested in the people.

“So between Accord and APC, they spent ₦100 billion for the election. How many schools? How many empowerment can ₦100 billion give you?”
He added that sharing the money directly among Nigerians could have supported millions of people.
“If you share ₦100 billion, ₦1 million each to people, you know how many people you will touch? We go fit feed themselves.”
Fayose argued that excessive spending on elections ultimately affects ordinary Nigerians, who he said continue to face economic hardship while political actors spend huge sums pursuing power.
His comments have since sparked fresh conversations about the cost of elections in Nigeria, alleged political violence and the amount of money spent by political parties during election campaigns.
