“I was done” — Pastor Jerry Eze reveals moment he asked God to end his marriage

Pastor Jerry Eze has opened up about the difficult beginning of his marriage, revealing that the relationship became so turbulent in its early days that he once packed his belongings and left home.
The Nigerian pastor shared the experience while speaking about how his understanding of marriage changed after he turned to God for direction.
Pastor Jerry Eze said one incident happened in their kitchen when he asked his wife a simple question and she became angry. According to him, she moved the cups and plates she was arranging, causing them to crash to the floor, before giving him a stare that frightened him.
Pastor Jerry Eze recalls leaving home
The pastor said he had come from a background where people did not express anger in that manner, adding that the experience was completely unfamiliar to him.
He recalled, “I just moved away, went to the room, packed my things, and then I ran away from the house.”
He further recalled telling God at one point that he was ready to end the marriage, saying, “Let her go my way, let me go my way. She’s successful, I am successful, everybody will be fine.”
Pastor Jerry Eze shares message that changed his perspective
The pastor said he received a message from God that transformed his understanding of marriage: “This marriage is not a destination, it is an assignment. And to the extent to which you will solve this assignment will determine your promotion in destiny.”
He explained that he subsequently stopped approaching marriage primarily from the perspective of what he wanted to receive and began focusing on what he could give.
Pastor Jerry Eze said he learnt to give love, speak appropriately and avoid responding to his wife’s anger with anger. Although he acknowledged that the journey was not easy, he said his wife is now “one of the sweetest persons you would ever meet”.
His account has drawn attention to the complexities of marriage, particularly the importance of changing one’s perspective when dealing with difficult seasons in a relationship.
