EFCC Lagos arraignment – The Trumpet Newspaper Nigeria

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned two men, Gideon Bakpa Aghogho and Oscar Ebere Chukwuebuka, before the Federal High Court in Lagos over allegations bordering on the unlawful supply and disclosure of bank access credentials.

Key Highlights:

  • EFCC arraigns two suspects over alleged bank database access violation.
  • Defendants accused of supplying FCMB system credentials.
  • One suspect pleaded guilty while the other pleaded not guilty.
  • Court remands defendants pending further proceedings.

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the anti-graft agency arraigned the defendants on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, before Justice F.N. Ogazi of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.

They were arraigned alongside one Scott, who is currently at large, on an eight-count charge involving the alleged unlawful supply and disclosure of access credentials linked to a bank database.

The charges were filed under Sections 27 and 28(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024.

According to the EFCC, the defendants allegedly committed the offences between July 24 and 26, 2026, in Lagos, by conspiring to provide access credentials connected to the FCMB system.

The commission alleged that Aghogho’s access code to the FCMB Virtual Center Platform was supplied through a local administrative credential identified as ITSD, which could provide access to the bank’s internal system.

Another count alleged that Aghogho, between April and May 2025, unlawfully disclosed sensitive access information, including the bank’s server IP address and domain credentials.

The EFCC claimed that the disclosure was intended to facilitate unauthorised access to the bank’s database and was allegedly carried out in exchange for $15,000.

When the charges were read before the court, Aghogho pleaded not guilty, while Chukwuebuka pleaded guilty.

Following Aghogho’s plea, EFCC counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, urged the court to adjourn the matter for trial and ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.

For Chukwuebuka, the prosecution requested that the court review the facts of the case following his guilty plea.

Justice Ogazi subsequently adjourned the matter until August 27, 2026, for review of facts and continuation of proceedings.

The court also ordered that the defendants remain in custody at a correctional centre pending the next hearing.
