Ebonyi Police Deploy Officers Ahead of August 22 Local

The Ebonyi State Police Command has deployed security personnel across polling units and strategic locations in the state ahead of the August 22, 2026 Local Government Area elections, as authorities intensify preparations for a peaceful electoral process.

- The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed that the deployment was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Urunwa-Okafor.
According to him, the command is working with other security agencies to ensure adequate protection of voters, electoral officials and residents before, during and after the elections.
The police command also announced a statewide restriction on movement on election day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The restriction, however, excludes accredited election officials, journalists, observers, emergency service providers, health workers and other persons authorised to carry out essential duties.

The Commissioner of Police warned political parties, candidates and their supporters against actions capable of threatening the peaceful conduct of the elections.
She cautioned against inflammatory statements, violence, intimidation and other forms of electoral misconduct, stressing that anyone found violating the law would face appropriate sanctions.
The command urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel and comply with lawful directives during the election period.
Voters were also encouraged to report suspicious activities, security threats or emergencies to the relevant authorities.
The Ebonyi Police Command assured residents that it had put adequate measures in place to guarantee a safe and peaceful environment for the local government elections.
