Delta APC Tackles Omo-Agege Over Campaign of Calumny

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has dismissed allegations by former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, that threats to his life and those of his family members were emanating from the state government, describing the claims as “reckless, unfounded and politically motivated.”
Key Highlights:
- Delta APC rejected Omo-Agege’s claims of threats to his life and family.
- The party called the allegations unfounded and politically motivated.
- APC urged him to provide evidence to security agencies.
- The party accused him of attacking Governor Oborevwori instead of discussing issues.
- APC urged Omo-Agege to focus on the upcoming election.
The party, in a statement signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, on Thursday, accused Omo-Agege of resorting to a campaign of calumny against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori rather than engaging in issue-based politics ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Delta APC categorically rejected any insinuation linking Oborevwori or the party to the alleged threats, stressing that the governor, as the chief security officer of the state, is committed to protecting the lives and property of all Deltans.
The party said it was “unthinkable” for the governor or the APC to be associated with threats against Omo-Agege or his family, describing such allegations as an attempt to attract public sympathy and gain political relevance.
“It is unfortunate that Sen. Omo-Agege has chosen unfounded allegations and personal attacks over issues, policies and ideas.
“As a former senator of Nigeria, Sen. Omo-Agege knows the gravity of such allegations,” the statement said

The APC further challenged Omo-Agege to provide any credible evidence of the alleged threats to the appropriate security agencies for investigation, rather than making public statements capable of damaging the reputation of the governor.
The party alleged that Omo-Agege and his political party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), lacks credible campaign issues with which to challenge the Oborevwori administration, claiming that their recent attacks were a response to the government’s achievements in infrastructure and other sectors.
It said the governor’s administration had recorded “unprecedented infrastructural development” in a little over three years, arguing that the achievements had left the opposition with little to campaign against.
Delta APC urged Omo-Agege to abandon what it described as a “needless smear campaign” and focus on issues that directly concern the electorate.
The party also advised the former senator to direct his attention to his opponent in the forthcoming election, Senator Ede Dafinone, rather than attacking Governor Oborevwori.
“For the records, Governor Oborevwori is not on the Delta Central Senatorial ballot with Senator Omo-Agege,” the party stated.
It reaffirmed its commitment to defending the integrity of Governor Oborevwori and the APC against what it described as attempts to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the governor for political advantage.
