[BREAKING]: Mazi Benjamin Madubugwu Defends Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Accuses ‘Paid Agents’ of Coordinated Smear Campaign

In a pointed Facebook post, Mazi Benjamin Madubugwu has drawn attention to the enduring integrity and organisational resilience of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, founder of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), while condemning coordinated efforts to tarnish his name and the structures he built.

Madubugwu recalled that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was arrested at Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos and detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) in 2005 for three months solitary confinement without phone call, access to lawyers or any trial simply for his association with and membership  Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) while returning to London United Kingdom. Despite that early persecution, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu refused to drag MASSOB into disrepute when he later parted ways with its leadership under Chief Ralph Uwazuruike in 2009. Instead, he walked away with dignity and built IPOB from the ground up—an organisation that has since become a the largest and most powerful vehicle for self-determination advocacy.

This record of honour and constructive leadership, Madubugwu argued, stands in sharp relief against the actions of individuals such as the sacked and expelled Chika Edoziem. The latter, he noted, has never experienced the inside of even a Yellow Fever office, let alone the ranks of the Civil Defence, Police, DSS or Army, and remains too fearful to conduct a simple live video appearance. Yet such figures, Madubugwu charged, busily smear the  Directorate of State (DOS) structure that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu himself created and into which he placed them.

According to the post, these critics and their network of fake accounts pursue a single objective: to destroy the name of IPOB by attaching every failure and every act of betrayal to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Madubugwu described the campaign as “pure evil.”

The statement underscores a broader contrast. While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu demonstrated the courage to endure detention, separate cleanly from a previous organisation without sabotage, and then construct a new one from scratch, certain paid government agents find it impossible to walk away. Their reluctance, Madubugwu implied, stems from an inability—or fear—to build anything of lasting value themselves. Rather than create, they specialise in tearing down the legacy of those who have shown genuine organisational resilience and personal honour under pressure.

IPOB supporters and observers of the self-determination struggle are therefore urged to recognise the difference between builders who have paid a personal price and agents whose only contribution is systematic character assassination.
