BBNaija S11: Ebuka Slams Housemates for Low Energy in Week One

Host of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, has criticised the Season 11 housemates over what he described as their uninspiring performance during the opening week of the reality show, saying many contestants have failed to take initiative or create memorable moments.

Speaking during Sunday’s live eviction show, Ebuka said he initially overlooked the slow pace in the house, believing the contestants needed time to adjust to their new environment. However, he noted that subsequent activities convinced him that the housemates were not putting in enough effort.

“Too many of you were just not there. I thought it was just day two and you all were trying to acclimatise. Then the wager task happened, but the build-up to it was lackadaisical, especially from the ladies. I did not want to think too much of it,” he said.

The television presenter also criticised the housemates’ conduct during the pool party, describing it as disappointing and lacking entertainment value.

“But then, I watched the pool party. It was more like I did not watch it because I went to bed at some point because it was not just it,” Ebuka stated.

Reflecting on the overall atmosphere in the house, the BBNaija host said the contestants appeared too passive and were waiting for events to unfold instead of driving the game’s excitement themselves.

“I have been trying to find the word to describe the week, and I think the right word to use is that so many of you are waiting for things to happen, and not many of you are making things happen.”

His remarks were widely seen as a challenge to the housemates to become more proactive and bring greater energy and entertainment to the competition as the season progresses.

Big Brother Naija Season 11, themed “Show Ya Sef,” is scheduled to run for 10 weeks, with the eventual winner taking home the grand prize of ₦160 million.
