Army Seizes AK-47s, Dane Guns in Plateau Raid

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered several firearms and ammunition during a raid on a suspected arms cache in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 8, Operation ENDURING PEACE, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, following intelligence of a planned attack on Mwar Community in Chakfem Kingdom.
The Army said the intelligence indicated that suspected bandit militias were planning to attack the community, possibly in connection with the reported rustling of an unconfirmed number of cattle allegedly by some youths from the area.
Following the threat, troops launched a fighting patrol and conducted raids in suspected locations as part of efforts to recover the missing cattle and arrest those responsible.
Using drones and other surveillance equipment, the troops searched surrounding settlements and bush locations but found no trace of the cattle.
However, intelligence reportedly identified Pantong Stanley and other youths as suspected perpetrators.
Troops subsequently raided Stanley’s residence, although he was not at home when the operation was conducted.
The raid led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated revolver rifle, two Dane guns and 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
