2027: Campaign With Your Achievements, Not Excuses, Dele Momodu Tells Tinubu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has advised President Bola Tinubu to base his 2027 re-election campaign on the achievements of his administration rather than political rhetoric, insisting that Nigerians will judge the President by his performance in office.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Monday, the publisher of Ovation Magazine said the outcome of the 2027 presidential election would depend largely on how Nigerians assess the record of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after years in power.
Momodu stressed that President Tinubu does not face personal hatred from Nigerians but must convince voters that his administration has fulfilled its promises and improved their lives.
According to him, the President’s chances of securing a second term would be stronger if he presents clear evidence of his government’s accomplishments instead of relying on political campaigns that fail to address citizens’ concerns.
“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. Nobody wants to pick him out because they just don’t like him. It is about performance. Present your scorecards. So the people running around spreading hellfire should calm down and channel that energy into showcasing the performance of the APC,” Momodu said.
The media entrepreneur also criticised the APC for continually blaming previous administrations for Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges despite having controlled the Federal Government since 2015.
He argued that while it may be acceptable for the current administration to claim it inherited a struggling economy, Nigerians are more interested in seeing the steps taken to reverse the country’s fortunes.
According to Momodu, the ruling party should focus less on assigning blame and more on demonstrating the impact of its policies on the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
“What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy. I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC,” he said.
He further questioned the administration’s record, asking what significant changes had been made since President Tinubu assumed office.
“Now, let’s assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. What has he done to change the direction of his predecessor and change the lives of the people?” he asked.
Momodu also commented on the recent public disagreement between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Reacting to Obasanjo’s remark that appointing Atiku as his vice president was his greatest political mistake, the ADC chieftain alleged that the former president has consistently opposed Atiku’s ambition to become Nigeria’s president.
His comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum, with President Tinubu widely expected to seek a second term in office.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, are among the prominent opposition figures expected to play major roles in the race for the presidency.
