“If I had ₦200k, I wouldn’t be in church” – Lady tackles pastors over altar donations linked to miracles

A Nigerian lady has criticised her pastor after recounting an experience during a church service, accusing some clerics of using altar calls to pressure members into giving money.
Speaking in a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady claimed that some pastors begin by asking members to bring large amounts of money to the altar before gradually reducing the amount until more people respond.
According to her, she finds the practice questionable and believes miracles should not be attached to specific amounts of money.
In her words, she said:
“You will go to some churches and hear the pastor say, ‘I need just seven people that can run to the altar with their ₦200k. If you have ₦200k, just run to the altar with it. God has something for you.’ So, God now does limited miracles?”
She questioned why anyone with such an amount of money would still be expected to respond to the call, insisting that the practice makes no sense to her.
The lady further alleged that when only a few people respond, the amount is usually reduced from ₦200,000 to ₦100,000, ₦50,000, ₦20,000, ₦10,000 and eventually any amount people can afford.
“If they see the people that came out for ₦200k are not much, they will lower it. Then it becomes ₦100k, ₦50k, ₦20k, ₦10k and finally, ‘Come with anything you have because God says this miracle must reach everybody.’ You be thief,” she added.
Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians debating whether financial giving should be linked to receiving miracles in church.
