Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued two kidnapped victims during a search-and-rescue operation in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Saturday following credible intelligence on kidnapping activities around the Lande Jessi area.
According to the Army, armed criminals had earlier attacked Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages, abducting two residents and making away with food items.
Acting on the intelligence, troops launched a coordinated fighting patrol across the area and successfully rescued the victims, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, who had reportedly been held captive for about a week.
Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, describing the successful rescue as a testament to the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Taraba State.
Akaliro said the operation was in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to intensify efforts against criminal elements and restore lasting peace across the country.
He urged the troops to sustain the offensive against criminal gangs while assuring residents of the Nigerian Army’s continued commitment to safeguarding law-abiding citizens.
The brigade commander also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing operations.
