Walson-Jack To Retire As Head Of Civil Service In August 

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Didi Esther Walson-Jack has announced that she will leave the position on August 27, 2026.

NEWSNGR reports that she called on federal civil servants to continue supporting the reforms introduced during her time in office.

She made this known in Abuja during the Mentoring Marketplace and the unveiling of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) Employee Self-Service Application.

Speaking at the event, Walson-Jack said the ongoing 2026 Civil Service Week would be the last she would attend as the Head of Service before ending her career in the federal civil service later in August.

Looking back on her time in office, she thanked workers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies for supporting the reform programmes introduced under her leadership.

She said the progress made in the Federal Civil Service was possible because civil servants accepted the changes and worked together to put them into practice.

Walson-Jack said the future of the reforms now rests on the commitment of public servants after her departure.

She noted that policies alone cannot bring lasting change without dedicated workers who are ready to keep them alive through their daily duties.

Esther added that the future of the civil service depends on building stronger institutions while also preparing more capable leaders.

According to her, this informed the decision to make mentoring and digital transformation key parts of this year’s Civil Service Week activities.

The outgoing Head of Service described mentoring as an important way to develop future leaders, prepare successors and ensure that valuable knowledge is passed from one generation of civil servants to another.
