Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Pay Taxes for More Development
President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians, particularly residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to pay their taxes and levies, saying increased revenue will enable the government to deliver more infrastructure and development projects.
The President made the appeal on Thursday during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16–Ring Road III Interchange, which links the Jahi and Gwarimpa districts of Abuja. He was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Tinubu described infrastructure as the foundation of economic prosperity and a key pillar of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said the newly commissioned interchange would ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity, boost security, and enhance economic activities within the FCT.
According to him, the project marks the end of years of severe gridlock that affected commuters travelling through key parts of Abuja, resulting in wasted time, fuel, and business opportunities.
He said the new road network would allow residents to move around the capital more efficiently, adding that improved infrastructure contributes to national development by connecting communities and unlocking economic potential.
The President also expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future, insisting that the country is capable of overcoming its challenges through focus, discipline, and strong political leadership.
“The Jahi-Gwarimpa interchange is proof that Nigeria is not beyond redemption. With focus, discipline, and political will, Nigeria will deliver, and we are delivering,” he said.
Tinubu concluded by urging Nigerians to fulfil their civic responsibility by paying taxes, stressing that government revenue is essential for funding additional infrastructure and public services.
“Also pay your taxes and levies so that government can do even more for you,” he added.
