Teddie Beverley, last of the Beverley Sisters, dies at 99

Teddie Beverley, the only surviving member of the famed singing trio The Beverley Sisters, died at the age of 99.

TY Jeffries, a British composer, confirmed her death via Instagram on Wednesday.

Jeffries hailed her as “beautiful, talented, and kind,” and said the trio would be remembered warmly for their great careers and long-lasting influence on British culture.

“Goodbye to my dear buddy Teddie Beverley, who is gorgeous, talented, and kind. He wrote, “The Beverley Sisters are now all together again.”

“Great gals! Such fantastic occupations! They were an important part of my life, as well as the lives of many others of my generation. Teddie will be greatly missed and always remembered. My heartfelt condolences to Sasha, Babette, Vincent, Francesca, Kelly, and Emily.”

In the 1950s, the Beverley Sisters were a well-known and popular vocal group with numerous appearances on radio, television, and stage.

Teddie, her twin sister Babs, and their older sister Joy were among the most famous figures in British entertainment during the 1950s and 1960s.

‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,’ ‘Little Drummer Boy,’ ‘How Much is That Doggie in the Window,’ and ‘Little Donkey,’ all entered the UK top 20.

Their career began when photographer Jock Ware overheard them singing during an audition for an Ovaltine commercial.

He referred them to BBC producer Cecil Madden, who became their manager and gave them the name Beverley Sisters.

They went on to become household names and, according to some estimates, Britain’s highest-paid female entertainers. They were also the first British girl group to find popularity in the United States.

In 2002, Guinness World Records named them the world’s longest-surviving vocal group without a lineup change. In 2006, all three sisters received MBEs.

They were also recognized for their coordinated clothes and trademark blonde hair. Joy died in 2015, and Babs in 2018, both aged 91.

Teddie married the British waterskiing champion Peter Felix in 1959. After their divorce in 1972, she married Donald Cottage, a property developer, in 1973. He predeceased her. Her first marriage produced a daughter who survives her.
