Vice President Kashim Shettima is presiding over a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.

The meeting has in attendance governors and deputy governors from across the country.

Among the governors present are the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State; Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State; and Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State.

Others in attendance include Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State and Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State.

Also present at the meeting is the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, who is making a rare appearance at the National Economic Council meeting.

NEWSNGR reports that the meeting is ongoing at the State House, with governors and deputy governors participating in the deliberations.

Meanwhile, Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has ruled out an amendment to the 2026 Electoral Act before the conduct of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview with ThisDay, in which he spoke about matters affecting the 10th National Assembly and other pressing national issues, Bamidele said amending the act just months before a major election can cause further distrust and confusion in the polity.

The Ekiti lawmaker pointed out that some of his colleagues had pushed for fresh amendments to the Electoral Act in the aftermath of certain court rulings, but as the leader of the Senate, he refused to support such moves.

According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is already under enormous pressure from various stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections, and any amendment to the 2026 Electoral Act must come after the elections have been concluded.
