APC ready for 2027 elections in Edo – Secretary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo says it is ready for the 2027 general elections, with its Oredo chapter resolving internal differences ahead of the polls.

Mr Lawrence Okha, State APC Secretary, disclosed this on Friday in Benin after a closed-door meeting with ward leaders from Oredo Local Government Area, elected and appointed party officials.

Okha said the meeting was convened to review issues across the wards, resolve differences and ensure that the party approached the 2027 election as a united force.

“All the wards in Oredo are here, and with this meeting, we will have an overview of all the issues across the wards so that we can go into the election in unison,” he said.

He acknowledged that there had been disagreements among members but said the issues had been resolved amicably, adding that Oredo is now fully prepared for the election.

“We are politicians and if by now we have not agreed among ourselves, it means we are not ready but I can tell you that we are fully ready for the election,” Okha said.

The APC secretary attributed the party’s confidence to the performance of the administration of Gov. Monday Okpebholo, claiming that the APC had become “a household name” in Oredo and across Edo.

“Gov. Monday Okpebholo has done very well and there is no other party in Edo except the APC. The election is going to be one way in Edo,” he said.

Okha also announced that the party would commence its campaign in the coming weeks, with Sen. Matthew Urhoghide as Director-General and Okpebholo as Chairman of the Campaign Council.

He said the party would approach the election with a common purpose of defeating its opponents and retaining its position in the state.

Also speaking, Mr Paddy Iyamu, APC candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said the party’s confidence was strengthened by the performance of the state government.

Iyamu listed road projects, the Ramat Bridge, school rehabilitation, loans for market women and business owners, CNG buses and students’ bursaries among the administration’s achievements.

“So, the people are not blind and the only thing they could do is reciprocate by rewarding the governor and the APC with votes,” he said.

Iyamu said the APC would campaign on its record in government rather than promises, stressing that the party had delivered projects and programmes that could be presented to voters.

“In Edo, APC has done well. We are not talking about what we are going to do but what we have done for the people. The election is for the APC,” he said.
