How Wema Bank users can access FG’s ₦50,000 support

The programme, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, is aimed at providing financial support to poor and vulnerable households struggling with the rising cost of living.
Wema Bank is among five approved payment providers selected to facilitate the disbursement of the funds.
According to information on the government’s NERSI portal, eligible beneficiaries can use ALAT’s USSD service to check their status and accept the payment without an internet connection.
Wema Bank customers can follow these steps:
The government says the programme is targeted at poor and vulnerable households identified through verified national identity records and the National Social Register.
The intervention covers eligible households across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
However, having an ALAT or Wema Bank account does not automatically qualify anyone for the payment. Beneficiaries are selected by the government based on its records.
There is no public application or registration process for the programme.
The payments are also being made in phases, so eligible beneficiaries may not receive notifications at the same time.
Yes. The government says beneficiaries do not have to pay any fee to register, activate their wallets, or receive the support.
However, customers who withdraw the money through POS agents may have to pay the agent’s normal withdrawal charges.
The government has also warned Nigerians to be careful of fraudsters who may demand money or banking details in exchange for the grant.
Beneficiaries should never share their ATM PIN, one-time password (OTP), or other confidential banking information with anyone.
For enquiries about the programme, Nigerians can contact the NERSI helpdesk on 0700-022-2222.
