Godspower Oshodin, founder of the Africa Literature Trust Fund (ALTF), opened the international tour for his book “Even the Devil Wears a Pretty Smile” on Saturday evening with a live launch at The Signature Gallery Kigali. The event brought together well-known figures from the industry for an evening of readings, conversation and celebration.

Guests arrived on a red carpet and were welcomed with cocktails before the programme began. The evening was hosted by MC Boris, with music performances by Egide N. The programme included a reading from the book and a book signing, where guests had their copies signed by the author.

Several people close to the author shared emotional tributes. Oghenetega Kragha, known as Yozzi, recalled hearing the story from Godspower 14 years ago. Kelvin Eromosele Oshodin, the author’s elder brother, spoke about his journey in writing. Joshua Omeiza Emmanuel, a friend since childhood, also paid tribute, along with Achi Oyemike. David Onuh addressed the audience on the title and what it asks readers to look for beneath appearances.

Femi Komolafe represented his father, Dr. Gbenga Komolafe, who wrote the foreword to the book, and the Pat and Gbenga Komolafe Foundation.

During a question-and-answer session, guests engaged directly with the author and asked him about his works.

Dayo, founder of The Signature Gallery Kigali, also gave remarks. He thanked Kigali for always making room for excellence and appreciated the leadership of Rwanda for welcoming the arts.

The Kigali launch is the first stop of the tour. Further dates include Accra, Ghana, on 4 December 2026 and Cannes, France, on 18 December 2026. Other stops will be announced by ALTF once they are confirmed.
