ADC crisis: INEC to meet over Atiku’s presidential ticket

INEC said it would not take any decision on the matter until it obtains and studies the certified true copy of the Federal High Court judgment that nullified the leadership of the David Mark-led caretaker committee.

The court, sitting in Abuja, had on Thursday nullified the Mark-led committee and cancelled decisions taken under its leadership. These include the party’s presidential primary that produced Atiku as its candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to Journalists on Sunday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the commission would first obtain the court judgment before deciding on its next action.

He asked the court to cancel the decisions taken by the Mark-led leadership and stop Mark and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, from presenting themselves as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary.

In his ruling, Justice Lifu declared that the process through which the caretaker committee emerged violated the ADC constitution, the Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution.

The court also nullified Aregbesola’s emergence as National Secretary, the appointments of other national officers and the party’s nominations of candidates for the 2027 elections.

It further directed INEC not to recognise or act on decisions taken at the ADC’s 99th National Executive Committee meeting held on July 27, 2025.
