The management of the Taraba State University, TSU, Jalingo, has appealed to students to remain calm and patient following the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ,ASUU, which has disrupted academic activities, including ongoing examinations.

The strike, embarked upon by the university’s ASUU branch on October 12, 2026, as observed by Daily Post, has generated concerns among students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders over the uncertainty surrounding the academic calendar.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Registrar, Dr Joseph Omar Bibinu, the university management acknowledged the difficulties and uncertainties created by the industrial action, particularly at a critical period when examinations are underway.

The management reaffirmed its commitment to staff welfare, noting that it recognises the aspirations of academic staff for improved conditions of service.

It also acknowledged the efforts of the Taraba State Government to address the welfare concerns of workers in the state’s tertiary institutions, including the recent constitution of a committee to review their salary structure.

According to the statement, “The university remains optimistic that sustained dialogue, mutual understanding and constructive engagement among the relevant stakeholders will lead to an amicable resolution of the dispute,” the management said.

It expressed hope that the ongoing engagement would restore industrial harmony, ensure academic stability and support the continued development of the institution.

Meanwhile, the management urged students to refrain from actions capable of disrupting peace and order within the university community while the dispute remains unresolved.

It also advised students to pay attention to official communications from the institution regarding the resumption of examinations and other academic activities.

The management expressed optimism that the dispute would soon be resolved through dialogue and goodwill, allowing students to return to their academic pursuits without further disruption.

It would be recalled that the ASUU-TSU branch commenced its indefinite strike on October 12, 2026, over demands relating to the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and the payment of salary arrears dating from January 2026.
