Lagos e-hailing drivers suspend four-day strike, asked to uninstall inDrive

It, however, urged them to uninstall the inDrive application.
The union’s Lagos State Chairman, Jaiyesimi Azeez, popularly known as Makavelli, announced the decision in a statement on Thursday, describing the industrial action as successful and appreciating drivers for their support and solidarity.
He instructed members to resume their regular activities but remain alert for further directives and updates from the union.
Despite ending the shutdown, AUATON expressed dissatisfaction with inDrive, alleging that the company had failed to contact the union for meaningful discussions despite the industrial action and the concerns raised by drivers.
According to the union, the alleged lack of engagement has raised concerns about the platform’s commitment to addressing the grievances of the drivers whose services sustain its operations.
“Without drivers, there is no ride-hailing business. Our contributions deserve respect, dialogue and meaningful consideration,” Azeez said.
As part of its next steps, the union urged drivers to reconsider their use of inDrive and remove the application from their mobile phones.
It also encouraged members to explore alternative ride-hailing platforms, including MyKaab, Randbax and SimpliRide, which it described as emerging options that could offer drivers a more sustainable working experience.
However, AUATON advised drivers to carefully examine the terms and conditions of any platform before signing up, particularly its commission rates, fare-setting policies, payment procedures, safety measures and driver support services.
The union stressed that its campaign went beyond persuading drivers to switch applications, saying its broader objective was to secure fair earnings, transparent operations, improved welfare and better working conditions across the industry.
“The struggle does not end because the shutdown has ended. We must continue to organise, engage, evaluate our options and insist on fairness, transparency, better welfare and respect,” the statement added.
The four-day industrial action followed mounting dissatisfaction among e-hailing drivers over fares, platform commissions, transparency, earnings and welfare.
The dispute put pressure on ride-hailing operators as drivers demanded improved terms and greater engagement over the financial realities of working on digital transport platforms.
Although AUATON described the shutdown as having achieved its immediate objective, its latest position indicates that disagreements over relations between drivers and ride-hailing companies remain unresolved.
The union also recognised the contributions of its executives, task force, national leadership, women’s wing and the Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress during the industrial action.
It called on drivers to maintain unity and continue pushing for better conditions, insisting that the resumption of normal operations would not bring its campaign for reforms in the industry to an end.
