Kaduna Government Debunks N2.3tn APC Rally Spending Claim

The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as false a viral letter claiming that Governor Uba Sani approved and released N2.3 trillion for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally.

The government described the document as fabricated and intended to mislead the public and damage the governor’s reputation for prudent financial management.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, made the clarification in a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Maiyaki said the purported letter, dated October 18, 2026, and titled “Notification for Preparations for the Grand Rally Flag Off,” contained several inconsistencies that cast doubt on its authenticity.

The document was allegedly addressed to Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, and claimed that N2.3 trillion had been approved and released for the campaign rally.

However, the commissioner insisted that Governor Sani neither wrote nor authorised the letter. He added that no such amount had been budgeted, approved or released for the event.

He also pointed to the misspelling of the governor’s surname as “Uba Sai” and the apparent unauthorised use of his signature as evidence suggesting that the document may have been forged.

Maiyaki further noted that the alleged expenditure was financially implausible, considering that Kaduna State’s 2026 budget stands at N985.92 billion.

According to him, the N2.3 trillion mentioned in the letter is more than twice the state’s entire annual budget, making the claim inconsistent with the government’s official financial records.

The commissioner maintained that there was no evidence of any official appropriation, approval or expenditure supporting the allegation.

He said the Sani administration had prioritised fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability since the governor assumed office on May 29, 2023.

According to the statement, the state government has focused its spending on critical sectors, including security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection, rather than unauthorised political expenditure.

Maiyaki also expressed concern over what he described as a coordinated campaign of misinformation aimed at discrediting the governor and his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He warned that the fabrication of official correspondence and the circulation of false claims involving public funds could attract criminal liability under the law.

“Political competition must be conducted within the bounds of truth, decency and the law,” the commissioner said.

He urged political actors and members of the public to rely on credible evidence when raising questions about government spending, rather than circulating unverified allegations.

The commissioner disclosed that steps were being taken to determine the origin of the purported letter. He also called on security and investigative agencies to investigate the document and prosecute anyone found responsible for its alleged fabrication and circulation.

Maiyaki further appealed to media organisations and members of the public to verify official documents before publishing or sharing allegations involving public funds.

The Kaduna State Government reaffirmed its commitment to prudent financial management, transparency and accountability, adding that the administration would remain focused on governance and improving the welfare of residents.

However, the alleged letter and the government’s claims regarding its authenticity had not been independently verified at the time of the report.
