Tension reportedly erupted during an Independence Day festival at Triple R Monoliza Park in Abuja after youths allegedly resisted attempts to turn the event into a political rally in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A video circulating on social media showed a confrontation between youths and individuals described in reports as political thugs. The youths were seen chasing and confronting some of the individuals amid the disorder.

The incident reportedly led to damage to some event equipment and chairs.

According to reports, the confrontation began after some individuals allegedly attempted to introduce campaign-related activities into the Independence Day celebration.

The incident has attracted attention on social media, although details surrounding what triggered the confrontation and the identities of those involved have not been independently established.

The Abuja incident comes days after a separate Independence Day 5-kilometre run in Warri, Delta State, where some youths reportedly tore branded shirts bearing Tinubu’s image and chanted in support of opposition politician Peter Obi.

Further details about the Abuja confrontation, including whether any arrests were made or whether anyone was injured, were not immediately available.
