23-year-old trafficking survivor, children rescued from Burkina Faso

A 23-year-old trafficking survivor, Miracle Musa, and her three children have been rescued from Burkina Faso and reunited with their home state of Taraba after reportedly being subjected to sexual exploitation.
The rescue, as gathered by Daily Post, was facilitated by the Taraba State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Organisation (GAHTO).
Musa, a native of Tashan Nyamu Village in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State, was reportedly trafficked to Burkina Faso, where she was subjected to sexual exploitation and gave birth to three children.
The family returned to Jalingo on September 4, 2026, following coordinated efforts by the state government and its partner organisations to secure their release and facilitate their return to Nigeria.
According to the ministry, immediate medical and psychosocial support was provided to Musa and her children upon their arrival to aid their recovery, rehabilitation and eventual reintegration into society.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs Mary Sinjen, commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting women, children and other vulnerable persons in the state.
Sinjen also acknowledged the governor’s wife, Mrs Agyin Agbu Kefas, for her advocacy and efforts towards the welfare and empowerment of children and vulnerable individuals.
The commissioner commended NAPTIP and GAHTO for their collaboration, stressing that sustained partnerships between government institutions, security agencies and humanitarian organisations were essential to tackling human trafficking and supporting survivors.
Sinjen said the intervention demonstrated the state government’s determination to rescue trafficking victims, provide essential care and ensure their safe return and reintegration into their communities.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against human trafficking, sexual exploitation and other forms of abuse across the state.
It also called for increased public awareness and community vigilance, urging residents to promptly report suspected cases of human trafficking to the appropriate authorities.
Sinjen further reiterated the state government’s resolve to protect vulnerable citizens and ensure that survivors receive the necessary medical, psychosocial and social support to recover, reunite with their families and rebuild their lives.
