Nigerian-Born U.S. Correctional Officer Arrested Over Alleged Attempt to Smuggle Drugs Into Prison

A Nigerian-born correctional officer in the United States has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle drug-treated paper into a prison facility in Texas.
Michael Oluwapelumi Ademoye, 28, a correctional officer at the Wynne Unit in Huntsville, Texas, was arrested on September 26, 2026, by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Office of the Inspector General.
According to a show-cause statement, Ademoye allegedly entered the prison carrying more than four grams of paper treated with synthetic cannabinoids, commonly known as K2, which he allegedly intended to deliver to an inmate.
Investigators alleged that Ademoye admitted he planned to deliver the drug-treated paper to a specific inmate and had already received payment for the planned delivery.
He faces charges of drug manufacturing or delivery and bribery.
Walker County jail records indicate that Ademoye was being held on bonds totaling $150,000 — $100,000 on the drug-related charge and $50,000 on the bribery charge.
Employment records show that TDCJ hired Ademoye in April 2025.
Before his arrest, the Wynne Unit had publicly praised Ademoye and six other cadets for their “dedication and commitment” in a Facebook post published in June. The post said the cadets had quickly adapted to their roles and made a positive impact at the facility.
The allegations remain subject to court proceedings, and Ademoye is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
