Troops Repel ISWAP Attack On Pulka Military Position In Borno

Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military position in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, during ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the area.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorists launched an aggressive assault on the military position, apparently in an attempt to overwhelm the troops and disrupt security operations around the community.

The soldiers, however, resisted the attack with sustained firepower, preventing the terrorists from overrunning the position.

The attackers were reportedly forced to withdraw with casualties following the troops’ resistance.

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also provided Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) support during the engagement, helping the ground troops monitor the attackers and coordinate their response.

As the terrorists withdrew, the air component reportedly carried out precision strikes on identified hostile elements, disrupting their movement and preventing them from regrouping.

The CJTF also supported the operation by providing local intelligence and situational awareness to the security forces.

One soldier sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm during the encounter.

He was evacuated for medical treatment, stabilised and is said to be responding to treatment.

Following the terrorists’ withdrawal, troops launched exploitation operations to assess the damage inflicted on the attackers, recover abandoned weapons or equipment and gather intelligence for follow-up operations.

The troops have since been placed on heightened alert in and around Pulka and are continuing patrols, surveillance and offensive operations to track the fleeing terrorists and deny them freedom of movement.

The successful defence of the position highlights the importance of coordinated operations between ground troops, the Nigerian Air Force and local security partners in countering terrorist attacks in the North-East.

Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to security agencies.
