2027: “Will of Nigerian people must prevail” — Peter Obi calls for global support

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the international community to stand with Nigerians and defend their right to freely choose their leaders ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi appealed on Thursday after meeting with the new British High Commissioner to Nigeria and his team at the Commissioner’s residence in Abuja.
In a post shared on X, Obi said their discussions covered governance, the welfare of Nigerians and the forthcoming elections.
He stressed that he was not asking foreign governments to support any political party or presidential candidate, but to protect the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
“Our appeal to the international community is not for support for any particular candidate or political party. It is for something far more fundamental: the protection of the Nigerian people’s democratic right to freely choose their leaders through free, fair, transparent and credible elections,” he said.
Obi urged international partners to promote accountability and ensure that the wishes of voters are respected.
“The will of the people must prevail,” he added.
He also congratulated the British High Commissioner and the British people on the occasion of King Charles III’s birthday.
