This was a major takeaway from an interactive session hosted by the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Society of Engineers recently.

Fielding questions from the audience of seasoned and young engineers alike, Dr Hamzat stressed the importance of practical skills development in AI, robotics and other emerging technologies alongside vocational training and professional certification.

Under this scheme, the Lagos State government would provide 40% funding of apprentices’ stipends to encourage businesses to train young people in partnership with professional bodies. The skills and certification acquired will improve employability and access to finance.

The Deputy Governor also promised to expand the capacity of the acclaimed Lagos State Science, Research and Innovation Council in supporting young innovators through funding, investment and global exposure. This way, young entrepreneurs will be enabled to develop, commercialise and scale their innovations.
