“Spend with sense” – Mother warns son against giving girls money, sparks online reactions

A Nigerian mother has sparked reactions online after advising her son, Harry, to be careful about spending money on girls and avoid being taken advantage of financially.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she urged him to spend wisely in his relationships and ensure that giving is not one-sided.

She explained that if Harry spends money on a girl, he should also expect some form of consideration from her, using lunch and cash gifts as examples.

In her words, she said:

“Harry, please don’t give your money to girls. They will finish your money and leave you. I’m not saying you should not give them, but spend wisely.”

The mother further encouraged him to avoid giving large amounts and instead spend within his means, stressing that having a girlfriend should not mean constantly funding her expenses.

She also warned him against falling for emotional requests from girls asking him to buy them food or give them money.

“If you have a girlfriend, spend with sense. Spend small small. Any girl you are giving money to, the girl should be able to give you something in return,” she added.

The mother concluded by pleading with her son to take her advice seriously and avoid being manipulated by affection or requests for money.

Her advice has since generated discussion among social media users, with some reacting to her approach to teaching her son about relationships and money.
