Bauchi police foil abduction of 16-year-old boy, arrest suspect

The Bauchi State Police Command has foiled the alleged abduction of a 16-year-old boy, arresting a 60-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Abubakar, in Shira Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesman of the command, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, saying the victim, Usman Dauda, was rescued unhurt during a police operation.

According to him, the incident occurred on Monday, September 28, when the victim’s 50-year-old father from Zigau Village, Shira LGA, reported that his son had been taken from Misau town to Bangala Village by Abubakar.

Habib said the suspect was allegedly planning to move the teenager to Kano for reasons yet to be established.

He said detectives from the Yana Division swiftly mobilised following the report and rescued the teenager from the suspect’s custody.

The victim was subsequently taken to the General Hospital, Yana, for medical examination, while the suspect was arrested.

The police spokesman said preliminary investigation showed that the suspect had allegedly confined the boy in his room for a day without proper feeding.

In another operation in Bauchi metropolis, police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division arrested five suspects allegedly involved in breaking into an uncompleted building at Doya Quarters.

Habib said the suspects were arrested at around 4:30 pm on Monday after they allegedly removed windows and glass from the building, adding that the stolen items were recovered.

He added that operatives also arrested some suspects at Unguwan Igbo at around 5:30 am over alleged theft after they were found with suspected stolen items concealed in a black bag.

According to him, the owners later traced the recovered items to the police division and presented evidence of ownership.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The command urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to assist in tackling crime across the state.
