“He brought out 2 litres of fuel…” – Man recounts emotional encounter with ‘Danfo’ driver on Third Mainland Bridge

A Nigerian man has shared a touching encounter with a danfo driver who came to his rescue after his car ran out of fuel on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

According to a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the narrator explained that the incident happened around 11pm when his phone battery was low and he had no power bank.

After several cars passed without stopping, an old danfo bus eventually slowed down behind him.

The driver, whom he initially feared because of his rough appearance, asked if he needed fuel. He returned with a small gallon containing about two litres of fuel and poured it into the man’s car without asking for payment.

After the car started, the narrator offered the driver the ₦15,000 he had in his wallet. However, the driver declined the money and told him to keep it.

He then revealed why he had helped a stranger without expecting anything in return.

“In 1998, I broke down on that same bridge, nighttime, pregnant wife in the passenger seat. No phone. No money. No fuel,” he recounted.

He recalled that a man in a suit had stopped, bought fuel for him and refused to accept any money. Before driving away, the stranger gave him one instruction: “Pass am forward.”

The danfo driver had carried those words for 28 years and finally had an opportunity to pass the kindness on.

The narrator said he watched the driver’s old bus disappear into the night, reflecting on how one stranger’s kindness in 1998 had eventually reached him decades later.

He described the encounter as a reminder that kindness can create a chain that continues long after the original act has been forgotten.
