The FCT Police Command has commenced an investigation into an altercation involving personnel of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and commercial motorcyclists in the Life Camp area of Abuja.

The incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, amid enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycles on major roads and routes within the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the police said its attention was drawn to the incident following a confrontation between the VIO personnel and the Okada riders.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations showed that a VIO officer attached to a task force constituted by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to enforce the ban had an altercation with a commercial motorcyclist.
