FRSC Recovers Stolen Vehicle in Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a stolen Hyundai vehicle in Abuja and handed it over to the Police for further investigation.

The vehicle, a red Hyundai with registration number YAB 789 AM, was recovered at about 2am on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, by a tow truck team of the FRSC RS7.1 FCT Sector Command.

The recovery was made at Wuye, along the expressway leading to Area 1, during the team’s operational activities in the area.

According to a statement by the FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, on Tuesday, September 8, a document found inside the vehicle provided information that enabled officials to trace and contact its owner.

Following the discovery, the FCT Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, initiated the inter-agency process for the vehicle to be formally handed over to the Police.

The vehicle was subsequently handed over by DCC Sabitu Abdu, Deputy Corps Commander (Operations), to CSP Nimyel Ponfa, Divisional Police Officer, Wuse Division, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.

Commenting on the recovery, FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the development highlighted the importance of technology, vigilance and collaboration among security agencies in protecting lives and property on Nigerian roads.

Mohammed said the Corps would continue to strengthen its vehicle identification and intelligence capabilities while working with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies when necessary.

He said the development was in line with efforts to reposition the FRSC as a technologically driven and security-conscious institution.

According to him, the Corps’ vehicle identification infrastructure, particularly the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS), has become an important tool for vehicle verification and national security operations.

The Corps Marshal disclosed that 81 stolen vehicles have so far been recovered through the NVIS Portal, underscoring the security value of the vehicle information system.

“The recovery underscores the importance of technology, vigilance and collaboration in protecting lives and property on Nigerian roads,” Mohammed said.

He added that the FRSC’s responsibility to save lives on the nation’s roads also extends to ensuring that the road environment remains safe, secure and properly regulated.

The Corps said it would continue to deploy technology, intelligence, field operations and partnerships with relevant agencies to identify suspicious vehicles, support investigations and prevent criminal activities involving road transportation.

Mohammed commended the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command tow truck team for its vigilance and professionalism, while appreciating the FCT Police Command for its continued cooperation.

He assured the public that inter-agency collaboration would remain central to the FRSC’s efforts towards safer roads, safer vehicles and a more secure Nigeria.
