Four Suits Challenging Adeola’s Ogun Governorship Candidacy Withdrawn — Aide Says Plaintiffs Discontinued Cases In Open Court

Four court cases challenging the candidacy of Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State, have been withdrawn, according to his media adviser, Kayode Odunaro.

Odunaro, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the suits were discontinued at different times as political activities gathered momentum ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

He said no formal reasons were given for the withdrawals, but claimed that the litigants had become persuaded about the merit of Adeola’s candidacy and had decided to support his governorship bid.

One of the suits, FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was instituted by Awolola Awoniyi under the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police.

Another case, FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was filed by Akerele Abiodun John, identified as Ogun State chairman of the Booth Party; Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun State chairman of the Young Progressive Party; Ola Olamide Emmanuel of the Action Democratic Party; Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola, an ADP member; and Fesomade Gbadebo, a member of the Labour Party.

The plaintiffs in that suit named Adeola, INEC and the APC as defendants.

Odunaro said two other cases challenging Adeola’s candidacy, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26, were also discontinued.

According to him, some of the plaintiffs involved across the suits included the aforementioned political party officials and members, alongside Olufemi Soluade, described as Ogun State chairman of the African Democratic Party; Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope, a Labour Party member; and Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun.

The media adviser said Awoniyi’s case was discontinued on August 24, 2026, while the remaining three suits were withdrawn on September 7, 2026.

He added that the withdrawals were effected in open court and that the defendants and their lawyers were formally notified through notices of discontinuance.

The development effectively brings the four legal challenges identified by Adeola’s camp to an end, subject to the terms of the respective discontinuance proceedings.

Adeola, reacting through his aide, welcomed the development and said he remained focused on his political activities and mobilisation ahead of the election.

“I am more than ever focused on my delivery of dividends of democracy for Ogun State people and continue my mobilization for full campaign across the state in the days ahead for the general election,” Odunaro quoted him as saying.

While Adeola’s aide attributed the withdrawals to what he described as growing acceptance of the APC candidate’s position, no independent reasons from the plaintiffs were provided in the statement for discontinuing the cases.
