Donations, Levies Fund Our 2027 Election Activities – NDC

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has defended its funding arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the party relies on donations, levies and contributions from members, stakeholders and supporters.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, made the clarification in a statement on Monday while responding to questions surrounding its finances and candidate selection processes.

Director said the NDC, as a new political organisation without elected public office holders, had established mechanisms to raise funds for its operations and preparations for the 2027 elections.

According to him, the party’s constitution allows aspirants, members, stakeholders and members of the public to contribute to its activities.

“As a new party without a president, governors, ministers, or other holders of public office, the task of building and sustaining the party posed an existential challenge. The NDC therefore took a proactive decision to solicit financial support from aspirants, stakeholders, and members of the public to fund party operations. This is provided for in the party’s constitution,” the statement reads.

He said all levies and contributions are paid directly into designated party accounts and managed by the appropriate organs.

Director also dismissed suggestions that the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, demanded or received money from aspirants for personal use.

“All funds were duly received, receipted and accounted for in line with global best practices,” he said.

The NDC spokesperson said the party would provide a full account of its finances in line with the Electoral Act and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He explained that funding was critical to election planning, particularly for an opposition party seeking to field candidates nationwide within months of the 2027 elections.

Director said the decision to raise donations and levies from members was aimed at supporting the party’s operations and national mobilisation.

He stressed that the NDC was not funded with money from government treasuries, but through contributions from its members, stakeholders and supporters.

On candidate selection, Director said the party’s presidential and vice-presidential tickets were offered without charge, adding that the same principle applied to several other political positions.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the NDC leadership to transparency, due process and justice in the conduct of its affairs.

Director urged the public and media to rely on verified information when reporting on the party’s activities and finances.

He said the NDC remained focused on preparations for the 2027 general elections and its objective of building a broad-based political movement.
